THUNDER BAY - Tears4Justice walkers will arrive in Thunder Bay on Sunday July 21st. An event to host the walkers will take place on Monday July 22nd.

Tears4Justice launched a national walk on June 21st, 2013 from Membertou, Sydney, Nova Scotia to Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

‘Tears4Justice’ main objective is to “raise awareness” on the plight of the far too many missing and murdered women and children in Canada especially within our First Nation communities and families.

Their ultimate goal is to seek justice, closure, equality and accountability for all those family members who came forward with their stories of lost loved ones and to address the overall issues of Violence against Women and Children.

Where: Lakehead Labour Centre

Arrival date: Sunday July 21st
Event gathering date: Monday July 22nd
Departure date: Tuesday July 23rd
Potluck lunch: Welcome the walkers.
Volunteer opportunities: Make your signs to bring to the event and/or photos of missing/murdered women/loved ones.
CALL OUT to drummers to greet the walkers and also to send them off when they leave!!

The walk was inspired by family members throughout the country who expressed their interest in going to the Highway of Tears and meeting the families of the Missing and Murdered loved ones along the Highway of Tears. Their objective is to not only raise awareness, but, also to stand in unity with all family members in their demands for Justice and a National Missing and Murdered Women and Children Symposium to discuss and devise a National Action Plan to eliminate all forms of Violence towards Women and Children.

Request for donations: Phone cards (FIDO, Rogers, Bell, Virgin Mobil), Tim Hortons coffee cards.

For gas and other expenses, they do have a bank account: Donations are gratefully accepted.

You can make a deposit to the Tears4Justice account at the BMO (Bank of Montreal), account number 8959-054, transit number 0005. Please make cheques payable to Tears4Justice. Or by mail to Vicki Chartrand at: 144 Chemin Des Iris, Martinville, Quebec J0B 2A0. No donation is too big or small.

Strong walkers/volunteers are requested to walk/drive to relieve the walkers through the long stretches, and also so they can be rested and ready to do their presentations at various communities along the way.

If walkers can join them from Thunder Bay to Kenora if possible, or any distance covered would be greatly appreciated.

Miigwetch/Thank you.
